Volunteer Job Descriptions

Packing Pros - Pack tubs of food for delivery to our pet families. You'll lift bags of dog and cat food and tubs of litter, and get a real feel for the families that are our clients. It's a great way to feel like you did something for the greater good. Three hours on Saturday mornings, 9-11.

Transporters – This team works in tandem with the packers to take the food from The Pet Project Midwest office to DMARC's warehouse a mile away. A vehicle with some storage capacity, or a willingness to drive in circles for a little while, would be great! We also transport food to and from our partner Animal Lifeline (on the metro's south side) twice a month.

Office Helper – Like any business, we have some administrative work that we need to take care of each week to keep things moving smoothly. We call clients to clarify information or fill in missing bits; we file; we check to make sure we're not running low on anything before the next packing; and we enter information into our computer system. Office helpers work from 1-4 on Tuesdays.

Food Raisers – Greet people entering grocery and big box stores and tell them about our programs. You don't have to be aggressive; a warm smile and cute dog tend to be enough to get the conversation started. Or if you're not quite that comfortable approaching strangers, sit at the table and help interested people fill out information or donation forms. These vary as to day, time and location.

Event Chatters – We're often invited to have a booth or table at farmers' markets, pet fairs, and other fun and well-attended events. Help us 'man' the station, talking to people about what The Pet Project Midwest does, helping them sign up for more information, giving kids fake tattoos, and in general being a good ambassador for The Pet Project Midwest. It's fun and it's easy! Day and time for these vary.

Event Production – We do a lot of fundraising and awareness events and we always need people to plan and do the prep work. If you're a party planner by nature, or can persuade businesses to support a cause you care about, this is for you!

Can Managers – We have change cans all over town that need to be monitored, collected and replaced. If you know a business that would be open to having a change can, let us know! If you'd like to be the Can Manager for a certain neighborhood, let us know that too. Once a month you'll call your assigned locations and check to see if the can needs emptied. If so, collect the contents, put them in a baggie, and give them to one of our board members to deposit or take them to our bank. It's easy and you can do it on your own schedule.

Paw Pantry Partner Leader – Do you work for a business that likes to get involved? Would you be willing to lead an awareness/food drive at work? We'll give you everything you need to get started, and even help you brand the event and some activities to your office culture. We have some great ideas to get people involved. Pantry Partners usually 'claim' a month and make it their own. Interested?

Information Manager – We need to know stuff. Like who manages the pet food plant in Fort Dodge, or the name of the owner of the spay/neuter clinic. If you have some time during the day and would be interested in doing some verbal legwork from home, we've got lots of little projects for you. Give us 30 minutes or 2 hours – the choice is yours!
